Pete Teo

I first heard of pete teo about 5 years back i think. I’m not sure how i got to know about his name, but i’m very sure it has to be about local music that i was searching around till i bum over his name here and there.

If memory serves me right, he was a DJ-ing for NHK radio in japan for sometime.

For a independent artist, he sure has make his mark in the local industry.

Malaysian Racism

Now.

What has Pete Teo and malaysian racism has in common?

The story was like this:

pete was juggling tomatoes.

bored. so he telephoned a few friends instead. “how about getting together to make an anti-racism song and music video?” all said yes without hesitation. not because pete threatened them with a rusty knife. only because they love malaysia.

The headcount grew to 52, then swelled to 120. Including famous people like ning baizura, amber chia, reshmonu, jaclyn victor, awie, daniel lee, tony fernandes, maya karin, and so on.

Besides the obvious celebrities, among them include local filmmakers, dancers, singers, producers, musicians, actors, entrepreneurs, designers, footballers, activists, models, students and even a florist!

they named the project “Malaysian Artistes For Unity”.

Originally, they were suppose to use a old john lennon song for it. Some how they got into some licensing issues with the john lennon guys.

And so, Pete kind of wrote the song 5 days before the studio recordings.

Later on, they manage to shoot a MTV of the song with KLPAC sponsoring the location. (I personally like the MTV, it’s shot at with a very malaysian style.)

we the rakyat lah

With just over 5 weeks of effort, they manage to complete the production phase from scratch. Best of all, all these was done without any budget.

Some of you may have heard the song from local radio stations or on 8TV. But if you missed it, here it is:

Here In My Home - Malaysian Artistes For Unity

try to look for tony fernandes.
And try not to laugh also.

Oh yah, since it’s a non-profit effort and they would like both the recording and the video freely and legally available to every malaysian regardless of race, income and politics you may get it over here. You can download the MTV,MP3 or even in your mobile 3gp format.

Let’s throw away all those racial nonsense and lets be Malaysians.

For some reason, two weeks ago, i was searching you tube for the latest American Idol to see how to competition has come to.

Apparently, this year’s competition was quite entertaining with lots of young and really talented guys and girls that could put many contestants from other seasons to shame.

During the search i accidentally found on Kurt Nilson - the winner of Idol in Norway and also champion in WORLD IDOL.

So this guy is idol of idols.

I remember seeing him compete in the world idol competition where he sang U2’s beautiful day beautifully.

The judges - 12 of them if i am not wrong - all agreed that he was pitch perfect.

1 of the judges has an extra thing to say about him though.

“You have the voice of an angel, but you look like a Hobbit. Right. And the fact is if we were looking for Middle-Earth Idol you’d be an absolute hands down winner”

That was what the judge from Australia had to say about him.

Most of you guys would remember him as the fella who sang “She’s so high” which were in our radio’s for sometime.

well basically i don’t blame him.

So we can comfortably say that talents and looks are two different things all together.

Looking on the bright side, he doesn’t have to worry about flossing his 2 front teeth!
Back to youtube, the video i saw about him gave me chills man.

Apparently, he sang quite a number of song and compiled an album with another 3 guys which is under the same recording label.

That album hit 6 times platinum award in Norway alone!

But it was a particular song - HALLELUJAH - that he and his gang, ” The Guitar Buddies” sang that capture my attention.

The song was already a nice song to listen to.

They bought it up another level and made it sound very pretty.

The song uses biblical stories to express it’s sadness and determination in a one way relationship. I’m not a christian, so i don’t really know about the biblical references.

But check the song out, and you will agree with me that it’s a pretty song and kurt nilson has a freakingly amazing voice.

Pretty.

That is all i can say about the song.

“I” is another good song sang by him.

There are not many artist who really delivers in terms of vocals at this modern age.

So enjoy!
